Heart + Math = De-Stress

In Chinese medicine, the heart is sovereign. It houses the mind and spirit and has governance over all other organs.

Researchers at the HeartMath Institute have validated this ancient wisdom by conducting experiments that demonstrate how focusing on core heart values like compassion, love, gratitude, joy, and forgiveness, transforms stress and shifts body and mind into optimal functioning. It’s kind of like being in “the zone.” They’ve devised a set of simple, easy to learn techniques that put you quickly into this peaceful state.

I’ve been practicing these exercises for several weeks and am amazed how quickly they work. For instance my sleep improved immediately and remains consistently deep and restful as long as I do the exercises for five minutes before bed.

Tools such as these are crucial to your health and longevity. Chronic stress impairs immunity, mood, hormonal balance, cardiovascular health, sleep and energy. One of the most important things you can do to improve your health is to learn to manage your emotions and cultivate a positive attitude. This is a fundamental aspect of Chinese Medicine. These days we all face the challenges of extraordinary economic, social, and political change. It is more important than ever to stay centered and calm, and to use every tool available to dissolve fear and discouragement.
The HeartMath Institute’s booklet “De-stress Kit for the Changing Times,” is now available as a free download. I offer it here, with gratitude to HeartMath founder Doc Childre.

Institute of HeartMath

Dear Friend,

We all know that millions of people are experiencing heightened stress these days. Doc Childre, founder of the Institute of HeartMath, a world leader in stress research, has written De-Stress Kit for the Changing Times, a free booklet that provides a few simple practices to help people intercept and manage stress during this period of challenge and uncertainty.

HeartMath is making a concerted effort to make this valuable, free tool available to as many people as possible. Since sending out De-Stress Kit for the Changing Times last week, we’ve had many wonderful responses and lots of creative ideas for how to get The Kit to more people. Here are a few examples:

For printed booklets:

De-Stress Kit for the Changing Times
•Ask local printers to donate printed copies to hand out to people who need it, but don’t have Internet access, such as those in community centers, faith-based groups, shelters, etc. The printers can add text on the back of the De-Stress Kit booklet. Printing donated by (name of printer here), street address, phone number and Web site address. For black & white booklet to send to your printer, click here. • Ask a local business or organization to sponsor or donate the cost for printing the De-Stress Kit booklet. They may also put their names on the back of the booklets: Printing donated by (name of sponsor here), street address, phone number and Web site address.
•Take a stack of De-Stress Kit booklets to local businesses such as hairdressers, employment offices, doctors’ offices, banks or any other place you feel is appropriate.
• Schedule a talk for small, local groups to discuss the practices found in The Kit. Possibilities include a gathering of friends, support groups, etc.
