Chinese Medicine and ALLERGIES

Chinese Medicine is an ancient system that treats the body with respect. Though most Americans know something about this form of treatment, few are very knowledgeable about its range and techniques. Here are a few typical complaints and the special and time tested methods which acupuncture might employ in their treatment.

ALLERGIES
Chinese medicine sees the cause of allergies as a combination of factors including stress, poor diet, pollutants and environmental factors. If not treated these factors will weaken what is known as the body's "Wei Qi" or special energy needed to protect the body from external factors. This energy in the body acts much like the immune system. If Wei Qi is strong and healthy the body is protected from allergenic factors such as dust, mold, bateria, viruses, dander and pollen. The strategy employed by Chinese medicine is to build the body's Wei Qi and allow the natural process of the body to prevent the effects of allergy producing factors. The acupuncturist will do this through a combination of needles and herbs. She will create a plan that is tailored to you and specific to your needs. This drug-free and safe method may also employ massage, diet changes and other forms of consultation and regimen. The treatment plan will evolve as the patient's condition improves. In some cases a degree of relief is felt after the very first session.
