Fibromyalgia
This is second most common rheumatic disorder for Americans, next to arthritis. People suffering with this may have a range of symptoms including: fatigue, stiffness, sore muscles, sleep disorders and bowel problems. One of the most common methods of diagnosis checks certain pressure points on the body - many of which are acupuncture points - to confirm the problem. The acupuncture approach to this is based on the concept of "Qi", the energy of the body and its free flow. Treatments aim to reduce pain and complaints while simultaneously encouraging a healthy, even flow of the body's vital energy. The equilibrium of the body can be restored in some cases without the use of drugs. The rectification of the body's balance can restore personal freedom, painless movement and a healthy attitude.
Most cases of fibromyalgia fit into the Chinese diagonosis of Liver, Spleen and/or Heart disharmonies. This doesn't mean that these organs have a "problem." It means that the functions of these organs according to Chinese medical diagnosis are out of balance. Imbalances can occur from improper diet, stress, unexpressed emotions and life style extremes. These symptoms can manifest as tendon and muscle stiffness, pain, fatigue, anxiety, insomnia and emotional unrest.
Acupunture and Chinese medicine provide a safe alternative in the treatment of fibromyalgia not only by relieving symptoms but by addressing the underlying problems that caused the imbalance.
